Sepupu 1Malaysia

Name: Dr. Foo Loke Min
Age: 39
Occupation: Lecturer
Allocation: RM 200,000
Project: SEPUPU 1MALAYSIA

An older peer has the power to change your life. As a kid, Loke Min used to struggle in math and science, until his cousin, a top student, stepped in to guide the young boy. His mentoring helped to eventually make Loke Min a PhD holder. The way Loke Min sees it, Malaysia is a family, and we’re all cousins, if not yet brothers and sisters. It is now time for our youth to play their role in the family.

WHAT ?

A mentoring program that will connect students between 12-15 years old (sepupu bongsu)from charity homes  who are struggling in their studies with some 50 selected university students (sepupu sulung).

WHY ?

A platform to improve weaker students by drawing inspiration, guidance and assistance from the more successful university students, who will in turn learn from their younger cousins.

HOW ?

Each tutor will be assigned a student. The sepupu sulung will guide his/her sepupu bongsu in studies, self-development and extracurricular activities. A framework sets the basic approach, learning content and evaluation requirements, but the tutors are allowed to inject their own ideas and method. The program will be monitored and evaluated through an official project website which also stores learning materials, keeps track of progress and demonstrates best practice.
